Teleios Boerdery is a family business that was founded in 2015, just after Wynand and Anita Claassens got married on their farm outside Modimolle, on the principle that we always want to deliver more and beter, rather than less. The farm was Wynand's father's property and we decided to buy it from him in 2020 to continue building our legacy. Our main farming activities was exclusively breeding Bonsmara cattle at first. Because we planted blue buffalo grass for our cattle, baling it for the winter soon became much bigger than just for ourselves. By 2016 Wynand and Anita started cutting and baling square bales on demand, knowing nothing about how the baler works, but together we learned (one driving the tractor and one walking with the baler to study its working) and today, with the same antique baler Wynand bales like a pro.
In 2018 we added a few sheep. One of which is Fiona, our hand-reared pedi-lamb, which has proven to be a brilliant mother herself.
In 2019 we started planting a small patch of purple garlic annually and in 2020, when covid hit, Christian, Anita's brother, had to stay with us on the farm for a while and decided to do something when it seems the lock-down was not to be ending soon. We only had a patch of land to help him with, so he decided to plant 5000 long slim cayenne chillies - which he called his "babies" because he planted each by hand - at the end of August. By mid November 2020, when the first harvest was ready, Christian had to take a job elsewhere leaving us with his "babies" and we decided - also knowing nothing about marketing chillies - to box them and deliver it to the Fresh Produce Market. That proved to be a loss and we realised we rather had to produce and end-product with it. That brought us to our first and favourite Chilli Garlic Crunch. Our whole household, including our two children, that were one and three year olds helped in the kitchen or tried labling - today they can lable like pro's.
We then added the Chilli Sauce Hot and Mild,
Pickled Garlic and Pickled Sweet Piquanté. Our
first market day was at the Nylstroom Boeremark, which soon spread to shops in Modimolle, Bela Bela and as far as Southbroom, Plettenberg Bay and Knysna. By the time we had to
decide if we should plant chillies again it was too late to stop. Our products became sought after and well-loved.
Each chilli and garlic being harvested, inspected and cut by hand (no machinery), home-made and fresh from the farm.
In 2026 we are adding three new products: Sweet Chilli Piquanté, Cowboy Candy and Pickled Whole Jalapeños.
